    Fruit Charcuterie Board Name

But first -- what should we call this fruit board platter? Technically, the "fruit charcuterie board" name isn't accurate since it doesn't contain any charcuterie -- that is, cured meat. I thought about "charFRUITerie, but that was a mouthful. So then I settled on calling this a "fruiterie board." Let's make that name catch on!

    fruit charcuterie board ingredients

What type of fruit goes on a charcuterie board?

There are so many unique charcuterie board ideas to choose from for this fruit tray. The best fruit to use is whatever seasonal fruits you prefer, especially ripe fruits that are in season, and some extras to add a nice touch! Here's what I use:

    • pineapple - I love having the tropical flavor of pineapple on this fruit board platter! And the added garnish of the pineapple top adds a dramatic look. I love pineapples, so for me this is the best part of this beautiful board.
    • fresh berries - blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries add a lovely color texture -- plus, they're already bite sized! And for more recipes with berries try my Blueberry Cream Cheese Coffee Cake!
    • kiwi fruit - bright green kiwis add visual interest and delicious flavor!
    • grapes - green or red grapes are always great fruit board ideas!
    • honey - bring out the sweetness in your simple fruit charcuterie board with a drizzle of honey! Or serve some in a small bowl with a honey dipper!
    • chocolate fruit dip - I used chocolate hummus, but you can also use caramel dip, peanut butter, or whipped cream!
    • cheese - I used softened goat cheese drizzled with honey, but brie, manchego, and blue cheese would be great. Feel free to use your favorite semisoft or creamy cheese, and check out my Brie and Cranberry Tart!
    • nuts and dried fruit - I used banana chips and almonds. But walnuts, Marcona almonds, or dried cranberries are also great ideas!
    • cookies or pretzels - try graham crackers, shortbread cookies, pretzels, or wafer cookies!

    Equipment

First, you'll need a board for this simple fruit charcuterie board! I used this wooden platter with handles from Target, and I love it! You'll also need a separate cutting board and knives to cut your fruit. I also used these small bowls for the nuts and dips.

If you're serving this fruit board platter for a party, you may also want to grab this charcuterie cups kit to serve your fruit in individual servings!

How do you cut a fruit for a charcuterie?

    • citrus and melons - you'll want to slice these, with or without the rind still attached. You can also do a zig-zag cut, which I mention below!
    • berries, cherries, and grapes - leave these whole and serve directly on the platter or in a small bowl.
    • kiwis - I like to use a zigzag cut for these! All you need to do is use a small paring knife to cut around the center of a kiwi in a zigzag pattern, cutting about halfway into the kiwi all the way around. Once you've cut all the way around the kiwi, it should separate easily and have a cute zigzag pattern!

How do you put a fruit board together?

There are lots of ways to arrange this simple fruit charcuterie board! Here's how I like to make it:

    fruit charcuterie board step 1

Start with small bowls for dips and nuts.

    fruit charcuterie board step 2

Add your largest items like citrus, grapes, and pineapple.

    fruit charcuterie board step 3

Fill in gaps with smaller fruits and cheeses.

    fruit charcuterie board step 4

Add garnishes and serve with toothpicks.

Hint: For best results, make this simple fruit charcuterie board the day that you plan to serve it and store in the fridge, lightly wrapped in plastic wrap.

    Unique Charcuterie Board Ideas

Depending on the time of year and the occasion, your ultimate fruit board platter can have lots of variations and unique flavors!

    • Fall and Winter Fruit Charcuterie Board - fill out your board with apples, pears, oranges, fresh figs, and dried cranberries.
    • Summer Fruit Board Ideas - add peaches, strawberries, cherries, watermelon, and plums.
    • Sweet and Savory Charcuterie Board - add in smoky seasoned nuts, aged cheeses, or seasoned roasted chickpeas!
    • Fruit and Chocolate Charcuterie Board - add in your favorite chocolate candies, truffles, and chocolate-covered fruits!
    • Tropical Themed Fruit Charcuterie Board - feature fresh mangoes, papaya, passionfruit, banana, and dried coconut flakes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What dried fruits are good on a charcuterie board?

Any that you like! Dried figs, dried cranberries, dried apricots and dried cherries are all great options!

Can I make a fruit platter the night before?

Absolutely! The best way to save time is to prep the fruits the night before and store them in containers in the fridge, then assemble your beautiful fruit charcuterie board the next day!

What fruit goes well with a cheese platter?

First, I like to grab one or two types of berries to pair with a cheese charcuterie board. They're a great complement with their sweet and tart flavor. I also love adding apples and peaches, and of course grapes! You could also make my Peach Mango Pie or Strawberry Turnovers recipe!

And for a delicious fruity cocktail to try with this fruit board, check out this Huckleberry Mule! Or you can even serve it alongside a Football Charcuterie Board for the big game!

This is a lovely charcuterie board. The fresh fruits are far more better to serve as a starter to any type of gathering. Love the banana chips idea for a bit of sweet crunch.
