Crumbl Sugar Cookies Recipe with Measurements

If you've had Crumbl cookies before, you'll love this copycat recipe! I'm a sucker for a sweet, buttery sugar cookie, so my favorite Crumbl cookie out of the ones I've tried is definitely the Crumbl chilled sugar cookie. It's soft and tender, with a bright almond flavor in the signature pink frosting.

That's what you'll get with this copycat chilled sugar cookie recipe - they're big, thick cookies that are so decadent and fun!

What is so special about Crumbl cookies?

So what is so great about Crumbl cookies? Well the appeal of the Utah-based cookie company's treats is undeniable! Their cookie videos are always viral on social media and they have fans all over the U.S. The cookies are rich and decadent with fun, rotating flavors.

All Crumbl cookie recipes are super popular, but the Crumbl chilled sugar cookie is one of their classics! Unfortunately it's no longer a constant part of their weekly rotation, so all the more reason to make this copycat Crumbl sugar cookie recipe! And if you love M&Ms, you need to try my Chocolate Chip M&M Cookies!

How is Crumbl cookie so low calorie?

These cookies are not for the faint of heart! According to their website, Crumbl's current menu offerings vary, but they can have over 600 calories each. So how is Crumbl cookie so low calorie in the nutrition facts? Well it's important to note that Crumbl considers each cookie to be several servings, so it's a great idea to share this Crumbl cookie recipe with others!

What are the ingredients in Crumbl cookies?

    • butter - I used unsalted butter for this recipe, since we're adding salt in later. Your butter should be softened to room temperature -- see below for a tip!
    • powdered sugar - using powdered sugar instead of granulated helps these delicious cookies to come out nice and soft! To make sure you don't use too much, make sure to sift your powdered sugar first before measuring with the spoon-and-level method, or just weigh it according to the gram measurements in the recipe card below using a kitchen scale.
    • vegetable oil - like the powdered sugar, using vegetable oil is a great way to get soft cookies that are moist for days!
    • egg - your egg should be room temperature -- see below for a tip to get it to room temperature quickly!
    • vanilla extract - since vanilla is the primary flavor in this Crumbl copycat recipe, it should be the good stuff -- pure vanilla extract. I like to make my own!
    • all-purpose flour - like your powdered sugar, make sure you're measuring your flour correctly, either by weight with a kitchen scale or using the spoon-and-level method.
    • baking powder - a little baking powder helps to give a lift and lighter texture to these copycat Crumbl cookies!
    • salt - to help bring out the vanilla flavor and balance out the sweetness!

What is Crumbl Cookies icing made of?

Now for the best part: that iconic pink buttercream frosting! Here's what you'll need:

    • melted butter - I found that melting the butter creates a slightly smoother finish to the frosting.
    • powdered sugar - just like above, make sure it's measured correctly.
    • almond extract - this is what gives the frosting that delicious almond flavor! Here's the almond extract that I use.
    • heavy cream - you'll start with two tablespoons, and adjust as needed to get a smooth, creamy texture.
    • salt - a pinch or two of salt helps to bring out the almond flavor in this frosting!
    • red food coloring - this is optional, but it's crucial for achieving that pink color that a crumbl chilled sugar cookie is known for! And for another fun pink treat, try my Valentine's Day Cake Pops!

    Equipment

You won't need too many special tools for this copycat Crumbl sugar cookies recipe -- mostly just a large baking sheet -- I use the Nordicware Baker's Big Sheet lined with a Silpat ¾ sheet liner. You may also want a #16 cookie scoop to get evenly-sized cookies, and you'll also want a hand mixer or a stand mixer to mix up your dough!

How to Make Copycat Crumbl Cookies

This copycat Crumbl chilled sugar cookie recipe is so easy to put together! The full recipe is below in the recipe card, but here's the rundown of how you make them!

    1. Cream your softened butter and powdered sugar together in a large mixing bowl, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Then add in your vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla.
    2. Sift your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients and mix until your cookie dough comes together.
    3. Let the dough chill while you preheat your oven and line your cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
    4. Use a #16 cookie scoop to scoop out 4 tablespoon sized dough balls onto your prepared cookie sheet.
    5. Bake! Your copycat Crumbl cookies are ready when the tops look set and no longer glossy. Set baked cookies aside to cool on a wire rack.
    6. Once they're cooled, spread your almond frosting on top of the cookies, and enjoy!

What are all the Crumbl cookie flavors?

The Crumbl cookie recipe list is constantly growing, as they change the menu every week. So far, you can get Crumbl Twix cookies, Crumbl chocolate chip cookies, key lime cookies, pumpkin pie cookies, and even cornbread cookies! I can't wait to all Crumbl cookie recipes as they release them! If you don't have a Crumbl bakery near you, you can definitely get that experience with this copycat chilled sugar cookie recipe!

Do Crumbl sugar cookies need to be refrigerated?

These copycat chilled sugar Crumbl cookies don't need to be refrigerated! They can stay fresh at room temperature for up to 4 days in an airtight container, or you can refrigerate them for up to a week.

closeup of crumbl chilled sugar cookie from above
How to Make Copycat Crumbl Cookies

Can you freeze Crumbl sugar cookies?

Yes you can! Just place them in an airtight container or freezer bag, and they'll stay fresh in the freezer for up to 4 months!

Copycat Crumbl Cookies Tips and F.A.Q.

How do I soften my butter quickly?

If you're in a rush, soften your butter in seconds by popping it in the microwave! Heat your stick of butter on high for about 20 seconds, rotating every few seconds. Then you're ready to add it into this Crumbl cookie recipe!

closeup of crumbl chilled sugar cookie from above

What size scoop does Crumbl use?

For these copycat Crumbl sugar cookies recipe we're using a #16 cookie scoop (about 4 tbsp), which makes these cookies a really good size! But from my research, it looks like Crumbl cookies use a slightly larger scoop, holding about ¼ cup of cookie dough.

How do I get my egg to room temperature quickly?

It’s important to use room temperature eggs in most baking so that the cold egg doesn’t affect the rise or even baking of your result. However, if you didn’t have a chance to leave your egg out to get to room temperature, try this tip! Just submerge the egg in a bowl of lukewarm water for about 15 minutes. That will allow them to get to room temperature more quickly and ensure a great result for this Crumbl chilled sugar cookie recipe!

Why did Crumbl get rid of sugar cookie?

In April of 2022, Crumbl announced that it would be removing the chilled sugar cookie from its regular rotating menu, since the specialty creations were more and more popular. So to make room for them, the sugar cookie is unfortunately no longer a regular part of the lineup. But for me, the sugar cookie is my favorite out of all Crumbl cookie recipes! So if you're like me and you need something to tide you over until you can have the real thing, you're in the right place -- this copycat Crumbl sugar cookie recipe is perfect for you!

How much sugar is in a Crumbl cookie?

The sugar content will vary depending on which Crumbl cookie you're having, but this Crumbl cookie recipe contains 53 grams of sugar per cookie -- as I mentioned above, they're definitely big enough to be divided into multiple portions!

What is the most popular cookie at Crumbl cookie?

Currently, the only consistent weekly offering is the Milk Chocolate Chip Crumbl cookie recipe, so that is most likely one of the best sellers. Other fan favorites are the Birthday Cake, Chocolate Oreo, and Cornbread!

Are Crumbl Cookies cooked all the way?

Yes! Crumbl cookies (and this copycat recipe) are meant to come out soft and moist for best results, so they're careful not to be overbaked. In my experience, they're always a delicious texture, but still fully baked!

Are Crumbl cookies made in the store?

Yes, Crumbl locations have an open kitchen so that customers can see team members making cookies right in the store.

How do you make Crumbl birthday cookies?

One easy way to turn this Crumbl cookie recipe into birthday cookies is to add sprinkles! You can add them to the dough and on top of the pink frosting for a sweet birthday treat!

    Instructions

    • Cream butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer 2-3 minutes or until light and fluffy. Mix in oil until combined.
½ cup unsalted butter, 1 ⅓ cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • Add egg, followed by vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
1 large egg, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract, ⅛ teaspoon salt
    • Mix in heavy cream, adding more cream as needed to achieve a thick, yet smooth consistency.
      2 tablespoon heavy cream
    • For pink frosting, add a drop of red food coloring. Add another drop if needed to achieve desired color.
      1-2 drops red food coloring

Recipe itself is fantastic! But with the portion size for the cookies, I highly suggest cooking for 15-20 minutes instead of 10 minutes suggested. Even after letting my cookies set for 15 minutes after having them in the oven at 10 minutes they were still pretty raw in the middle. I would imagine it could also just be a difference in ovens too, so definitely double check the center before shutting off the oven. I ended up popping them back in the oven and they were perfect afterwards! Thank you again for the recipe!

Hi Michele -- sorry the baking time didn't work for you! It does sound like a difference in your oven temp, which is why I definitely recommend using an oven thermometer to make sure your oven temp is accurate. Glad you enjoyed the recipe otherwise!

We can't find crumbl cookies here in Italy but they look really good. Love the colour of the frosting! On my to-make list!

Lovely cookies! I enjoy the fact that you can freeze and make fresh baked cookies for later. Everyone loved them with milk and coffee.

I have heard such good things about crumbl cookies, but for me I just can't justify paying that much for a cookie!! I am so glad I can make it at home now 🙂

The beautiful photo of your Crumbl Sugar Cookies immediately reminded me of the pink-iced teacakes my grandmother used to make when I was a young girl. So beautiful. Amazing taste!

These cookies are so delicious! Soft and chewy goodness. The frosting is even yummier. It's smooth and personally not too sweet like they usually are. So glad I found another great and easy recipe to add to our family desserts 😊. Thank you!
