Can condensed milk be used in brownies?
Absolutely! Sweetened condensed milk is essentially sweetened milk that has been cooked down to so that some of the liquid evaporates and it takes on a slight caramelized flavor.
It adds a richness and sweetness that is so unique, and gives your brownies a delicious texture! And as you'll see in these brownies, it's a great substitute for the richness added by eggs, and the fudgy texture of the brownies is unreal!

Can I use condensed milk instead of eggs in brownies?
Yes, you can! If you love fudgy, chocolatey goodness without eggs, you've got to make this easy condensed milk brownie recipe! They're so much fudgier than a boxed brownie mix, and so simple to make.
Eggless and made with gooey chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and rich cocoa powder, these moist brownies are just what you need for your chocolate craving! I'm telling you, these are the fudgiest brownies I've ever made, with the best chewy texture. I wouldn't even notice that they're made without eggs!

What can I do with leftover condensed milk?
If you're wondering: what can I use sweetened condensed milk for? I've got so many ideas! I use condensed milk in my Lemon Dump Cake, as well as my Lemon Icebox Pie and Key Lime Pound Cake! It's also so useful in no-bake desserts like my Blackberry Cheesecake Ice Cream! But if you're in the mood for chocolate, you can't go wrong with this easy condensed milk brownie recipe!

Ingredients
- sweetened condensed milk - this is the key ingredient in this fudgy chocolate brownie recipe! I use Eagle Brand condensed milk, but your favorite condensed milk brand should work! Or check below for the coconut milk option to make them vegan!
- melted butter - you'll want to use unsalted butter in these brownies. It should be melted and then cooled to room temperature.
- light brown sugar - I love using brown sugar in brownies -- it adds to that chewy, fudgy texture and adds so much more flavor than granulated sugar!
- vanilla extract - be sure to use a high-quality pure vanilla extract. Or better yet, check out my post on how to make vanilla extract at home with just 2 ingredients!
- unsweetened cocoa powder - my favorite cocoa powder is Ghirardelli, but any unsweetened cocoa powder should work! You can also use a dark cocoa powder to make a dark chocolate brownie with a richer chocolate flavor, like I do with my Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Mousse!
- all-purpose flour - for best results, make sure you measure your flour with a kitchen scale, or by using the spoon-and-level method.
- baking powder - adding a little baking powder helps to lighten the texture of these brownies a bit, but they're still thick and fudgy!
- sea salt - to bring out the chocolate flavor and offset the sweetness a bit. You can also sprinkle some coarse sea salt on top of your completed brownies!
- semi-sweet chocolate chips - nothing better than gooey chocolate chips inside of freshly baked brownies! You can also use dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, or butterscotch chips!
Equipment
The main tool you'll need for these brownies is a 9x9 baking pan to bake them up. Otherwise, you'll just need some basic mixing tools like a large mixing bowl, a whisk, and a rubber spatula!
How do you make brownies with condensed milk?
You can find detailed instructions for this condensed milk brownie recipe in the recipe card below, but here are the basic steps for the best brownies with condensed milk:

Combine brown sugar, butter, and sweetened condensed milk in a large bowl and whisk until smooth.

Add vanilla and whisk until smooth.

Sift in dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Mix until smooth, then fold in chocolate chips.

Spread brownie batter into prepared 9x9 square pan (batter will be thick), and bake until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.

After removing from the oven, let your brownies cool before cutting into squares. If you like, sprinkle flaky salt on top of the brownies.
Condensed Milk Brownies - No Butter
If you prefer, you can make these condensed milk brownies with no butter by just swapping the butter for melted coconut oil or any neutral vegetable oil.
And if you want to add frosting to these chewy brownies, check out my Chocolate Fudge Frosting!

Vegan Condensed Milk Brownies
You can also make these brownies vegan by making the following swaps:
- Swap out the melted butter for melted vegan butter like Earth Balance Organic.
- Make sure your brown sugar is vegan-friendly.
- Use sweetened condensed coconut milk instead of regular sweetened condensed milk!
- Use vegan chocolate chips.

Storing Sweetened Condensed Milk Brownies
You can keep these sweetened condensed milk brownies on the counter at room temperature in an airtight container or plastic wrap for up to 4 days, or in the in fridge for up to 6 days. You can also store these fudgy brownies in the freezer, well wrapped, for up to two months.
Can you cook with condensed milk?
I don't know of many savory cooking recipes made with condensed milk, since it's so sweet -- I could picture it being used in a sweet-and-salty glazed meat, or in a sweet stir-fry sauce!
Frequently Asked Questions
Adding sweetened condensed milk to brownie mix makes the brownies richer, fudgier, and sweeter. Since condensed milk is thick and sticky, it adds extra moisture and helps create a dense, chewy texture instead of light, cakey brownies.
You can make boxed brownies taste fancy with a few simple tricks. Swap the oil for melted or browned butter to add rich flavor, or replace the water with coffee or milk for a deeper chocolate taste.
Stir in extras like chopped chocolate, Oreos, or walnuts, and finish them off with toppings like flaky sea salt, ganache, or toasted marshmallows to transform boxed brownies into a bakery-style treat.
So much! My Pumpkin Pie in Graham Cracker Crust uses condensed milk for that rich pumpkin pie texture, and my Lemon Bars with Graham Cracker Crust rely on condensed milk for sweetness! You can also use condensed milk to make No-Churn Strawberry Ice Cream!

We just put our brownies in the oven. It was fun to make with my 2 and 4 year old, plus they were excited to taste the batter. When baking with eggs they can't try so this is a perfect bake with young children. Thank you!

Wonderful! I hope they loved them!
Liz says
Can I use white sugar instead of light brown sugar?

I want to make these as little additional DIY Christmas gifts for some children. Will they freeze and if so for how long and how should I wrap them? Also, without freezing how long will they keep and how sould I store them?
Chenée Lewis says
Hi! Yes they should freeze well for up to two months, wrapped in plastic wrap and then placed in a freezer bag or an airtight container. Otherwise, they should stay fresh at room temperature up to 3 days in an airtight container. Hope this helps!
LadyVEE says
Good afternoon Sunshine. Can I double the recipe and bake in a half sheet pan?
Chenée Lewis says
Hi! I would suggest baking a double batch in a quarter sheet 9x13 pan. If you used a half sheet they would end up too thin I think. With a 9x13 pan they'll be a little thicker and need a couple more minutes in the oven.
Shasha says

These brownies are life changing. I loved them. Super super easy to make and I didn't worry about giving my kids the leftover batter because theres no eggs! This definitely will be my new go to recipe for brownies. I dont need to buy a box mix ever again!
Chenée Lewis says
I'm so happy to hear that! And I hadn't even thought about that brownie batter thing -- definitely sneaking a few spoonfuls of batter next time I make these!
Christi J says
Chenée's recipe was - as always - super easy to follow, and these brownies were super easy to make! My fiancé loves all things chocolate, and he LOVED these. He had three last night alone. LOL
I love the spin on preparation and feel like the recipe created a deliciously fudge-y brownie that had just the right amount of gooey-ness. I definitely recommend giving these a try if your house loves brownies. I added just a smidge of almond extract to mine to add a bit more sweetness, as my cocoa powder was hella expired (whoops!), and they came out perfect. I'll do us another batch next week with fresh cocoa powder just to compare!!
Chenée Lewis says
Thank you so much Christi! I love the simplicity of this recipe and they can be super addictive!!
